Otown Back Pain Treatment

Otown back pain treatment by TJ DelorieMost of us suffer from back pain at some point in our lives. Researchers estimate that nearly 1 out of 3 adults deal with some kind of regular spinal pain. TJ Delorie and our talented staff see many back and neck pain cases in our Otown office, and we've found that chiropractic care is an effective way to not only help you recover from back pain, it's also a great way to avoid future episodes.

A recent article from the University of Utah confirms what our Otown patients have reported: your Otown chiropractor is the best first option for an episode of back pain.

In this article, 747 participants were treated for low back pain. Each person was evaluated based on the first person they sought treatment with, whether it was a primary care physician, a chiropractor, a physiatrist (also known as a rehabilitation physician), or a physical therapist.

What the authors found is that the men and women who first saw a chiropractor had fewer advanced imaging tests and fewer surgical procedures.

Other studies have found the same results. A 2012 study found that chiropractic patients had the best functional recovery and pain relief for chronic back pain.

Chiropractic works by restoring the natural, pain-free function of your spine. TJ Delorie and our team help your body heal with gentle chiropractic adjustments that don't use drugs or risky surgical procedures.

If you live near our Otown office and would like to get out of pain, give our office a call today at 724-123-1234 for an appointment.

Otown Neck Pain and Car Accidents

We manage many auto injury cases in our Otown office, and a common symptom our patients report is neck pain. Why is neck pain such a common problem after a car crash? How can chiropractic care help you recover?

The neck is exposed to very high forces during a car accident, so it's not surprising that neck pain is so common from this type of injury. During even a low speed car crash, your head is exposed to extremely rapid acceleration. In such collisions, a head that normally weighs about 10 pounds can instantly weigh 80 or more pounds. This force exerts a serious strain on the tissues of the neck. The bones of your spinal column are held together with strong bands of tissue called ligaments, and these ligaments provide stability for your neck. These ligaments can be sprained during a wreck, just as the ligaments in your ankle can be sprained. A sprain means that the ligament is stretched or torn.

When you experience a sprained ligament, the damaged tissues gets inflamed and sore, and that's what happens after a car crash. Your chiropractor helps by increasing mobility in the injured region, which helps the ligaments heal and helps minimize scar tissue.

Let us help you recover from neck pain. TJ Delorie has helped many patients with the same problem, and we can probably help you, too. The first step is to get an accurate diagnosis to determine what's causing your pain and then we will determine an appropriate treatment strategy. Ready to make an appointment? Give us a call at 724-123-1234 and we'll get you back on the road to health.

Chiropractic Works for Ankle Sprains

Otown natural ankle sprain treatmentWe see quite a few patients in our Otown office with ankle sprains but TJ Delorie has had a lot of success helping them heal more quickly. Why are ankle sprains so common and how can chiropractic help?

According to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), an estimated 25,000 men and women in the US sprain their ankles daily. As a matter of fact, these injuries make up almost half of all sports injuries, causing people to spend time away from the activities they enjoy most.

Like most any injury, there are many causes of ankle sprains. The most frequent is inversion, or when the ankle rolls inward. This injury can take place due to one forceful movement, or it can develop over time, and activities that increase the risk for this type of ankle sprain include running and jumping. You're also at risk if you have pre-existing ankle injuries, poor posture or balance, weak muscles, and reduced range of motion. How can TJ Delorie help?

A paper printed in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics set out to determine chiropractic's role when it comes to ankle sprain recovery. Researchers enrolled 33 people between the ages of 18 and 45 who had a history of ankle inversion sprains, who were reporting tenderness and/or pain, and had not re-injured the ankle in the previous six weeks.

18 of the participants were assigned to receive rehabilitation and the remaining 15 subjects received chiropractic adjustments in addition to rehabilitation. Each individual had five full weeks of treatment, with the rehab group receiving therapy seven days a week and the rehab plus chiropractic group receiving treatment six out of the seven days.

The study found that the individuals who had both rehab and chiropractic fared the best at the 4-week mark when it came to pain and joint restriction. Furthermore, no negative effects were reported, showing that this treatment option is safe.

If you're near our office in Otown and you're suffering from an ankle injury, give us a call. We'll do what we can to keep you up and running...literally!

Knee Pain Treatment with Chiropractic

Otown natural knee knee pain treatmentKnee pain is a frequent issue for people in our Otown chiropractic office, and TJ Delorie has successfully provided many of these people relief. This is mostly because chiropractic care has been found to help with many types of knee pain.

For instance, some people encounter pain in and around the knee area due to osteoarthritis. Research has proven that this condition responds very well to chiropractic--and rather quickly, too. In fact, one study published in The Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association found that people with osteoarthritis in their knees felt considerable pain relief and improved function after just two weeks of chiropractic care.

If your knee pain is caused by a medial meniscus sprain, chiropractic could likely help with that as well. One case reported that integrating chiropractic with soft tissue therapy, rest, ice, and compression on the affected knee helped lower the intensity of the pain.

Of course, sometimes a knee replacement surgery is necessary in order to rectify the issue, and if that's the case, chiropractic care can also help improve the outcome. How?

Research has shown that people with low back pain frequently have less positive results after knee surgery. Therefore, dealing with your back pain through chiropractic prior to having a total knee arthroplasty can assist with your post-surgery recovery.

No matter what your knee issue, TJ Delorie can likely help. Call our Otown office today and find out what we can do for you!

How Chiropractic Can Help You Avoid Chronic Auto Injury Pain

Over 2 million people are hurt each year in car accidents in the U.S. While some people are able to recover from their injuries fairly quickly, too many people are left to deal with chronic pain and disability. We see many of these patients here in our Otown office. Fortunately, TJ Delorie is here to help you recover from your auto injury.

The science confirms what we see in our office: A British study was conducted on 28 individuals diagnosed with chronic whiplash pain. Each participant received chiropractic adjustments and 93 percent of them experienced pain relief following their adjustments, even though 43 percent of whiplash sufferers overall usually never find relief. This confirms that chiropractic is a great way to avoid chronic pain after a crash.

It's important to note that research has also found that delaying treatment after a car crash can negatively affect healing time, so getting in to see TJ Delorie as soon as possible is key to having a quicker recovery.

TJ Delorie has helped many auto injury patients, and we're here to help you, too. Call our Otown office today for more information or an appointment.

Otown Chiropractic Care for Headache

There are many different kinds of headache, but one of the most common types is known as "cervicogenic headache," or headaches that start in your neck.

TJ Delorie sees a lot of people in our Otown office who are suffering with frequent, reoccurring headaches. Thankfully, chiropractic can usually help, potentially reducing these types of headaches by 50 percent, and research confirms it.

A study was conducted involving 80 participants who reported experiencing at least five cervicogenic headaches during the prior three months. The goal was to discover how effective chiropractic was for this type of head pain, as well as to determine the number of treatment sessions required to achieve a positive effect.

The patients were divided into four separate groups, so that each group was similar in age, gender, number of cervicogenic headaches, and their intensity. Of the four groups, two engaged in chiropractic treatments and two received light massage. Furthermore, one group assigned to each treatment received eight sessions and the other group received double that amount.

Each patient was assessed based on head pain, neck pain, and disability prior to the study and 12 and 24 weeks after treatment was complete. The authors found that those who received chiropractic as opposed to massage reported fewer headaches at the conclusion of the study. Furthermore, improvements were maintained when checked six months after treatment ended.

Additionally, patients who were taking medications for their headaches were able to lower their intake after completing the study. Those who received chiropractic had lower medication usage 24 weeks post-study.

Chiropractic Can Decrease Shoulder Pain

Otown shoulder pain treatment and recoveryAccording to research, around 5 percent of the population will suffer from painful ailments like frozen shoulder syndrome at some time in their lives. That makes shoulder-related pain a common problem and one that TJ Delorie sees in our Otown practice on a regular basis.

Usually, this issue is more common for people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, and it tends to affect women more often than men. While ice, heat, and gentle stretching can often times help alleviate the pain, so too can chiropractic.

As an example, one study published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine looked at 50 patients with frozen shoulder who were given chiropractic care. The length of care ranged from 11 days to 51 days, with 28 days being the average.

The doctors found that nearly all of the study participants fared very well with chiropractic care. The study found:

• 8 of the subjects reported 50-75 percent improvement
• 25 indicated improvement ranging from 75- 90 percent
• 1 participant had complete resolution of their frozen shoulder pain

Only one of the original 50 reported an improvement of 50 percent or less, so studies like this demonstrate just how effective chiropractic care can be when it comes to decreasing shoulder pain and improving quality of life.

Let TJ Delorie help you relieve your pain by contacting our Otown office and scheduling your appointment today.

Preventing Leg Injuries with Chiropractic

Otown-sports-therapyWhen playing sports activities that require a lot of lower body movement, like football, soccer, and basketball, it's not at all uncommon to suffer some type of injury to your hips or legs. Between pulled hamstrings, sprained ankles, knee injuries, and more, many players have found themselves out of commission. TJ Delorie has seen all of these problems in our Otown patients. Fortunately, chiropractic can help prevent some of these injuries from occurring and research proves it.

TJ Delorie keeps current with all of the latest scientific research, and in a report published in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, researchers from Macquarie University in Australia studied 59 semi-elite Australian Rules footballers. Roughly half were placed in a control group and the others were put in a treatment group that received sports chiropractic care at regular intervals. During the first six weeks, this meant engaging in care once a week. The following three months consisted of an adjustment every two weeks before reducing those to one visit monthly for the final three months of the study.

Researchers noted that there was a "significant" difference in the number of leg strains the players received in the treatment group when compared to the control. In addition, they observed that the subjects who received chiropractic also had fewer weeks of missed practice and games as a result of non-contact knee injuries. This led them to determine that sports chiropractic intervention should be added to "the current best practice management."

Every major sports organization in the US and the US Olympic Team has chiropractors on staff for their players, because they know that chiropractic works. If you live near our office in Otown and would like to see if TJ Delorie can help you boost your performance or reduce sports injuries, give our office a call today at 724-123-1234 for an appointment.
