Migraines Helped by Chiropractic

Olympia natural migraine treatment by TJ DelorieWith the Migraine Research Foundation reporting that migraine headaches affect 38 million adults and children in the U.S. (more than asthma and diabetes put together), it's not surprising that TJ Delorie sees a lot of migraine sufferers in our Olympia office. Although some folks choose to relieve migraine pain with drugs, chiropractic is a fantastic, all-natural approach that often produces positive results.

Research Shows Chiropractic Care Helps With Migraines

For instance, one study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics involved 127 patients ranging in age from 10 to 70-years-old who struggled with frequent (at least monthly) headaches. Each subject engaged in up to 16 chiropractic sessions. The subjects noted that their headache frequency, duration, and disability two months before the treatments began, during the duration of the sessions (which was two months), and two months post-treatment.

What the researchers discovered is that chiropractic reduced the frequency, duration, and disability of the migraine pain when compared with the control group who didn't receive chiropractic. Even better, this allowed them to take less medication for the pain, providing them an all-natural answer for a chronic problem.

Another report found that a combination of chiropractic and neck massage reduced migraine headaches almost 68%.

If you have migraine headache pain and are looking for help, call TJ Delorie today and request an appointment in our Olympia chiropractic office. We'll do what we can to help you become pain-free!

Olympia Cervicogenic Headache Treatment

Olympia headache care by TJ DelorieWe know how difficult persistent headache pain can be. TJ Delorie and our staff have worked with many patients in our Olympia chiropractic practice, and we've had great success in helping people eliminate their headache pain.

Research Supports Chiropractic Helps With Cervicogenic Headaches

A 2016 research paper verifies what we see in our practice. In this paper, the authors started with 110 patients who were suffering from headache pain that originated in the cervical spine. 58 of these patients were given a series of neck adjustments; 52 were given some stretches and exercises. The treatment period for both groups was four weeks.

The report found that the patients who received cervical and thoracic spinal adjustments "experienced significantly greater reductions in headache intensity, disability, headache frequency, headache duration, and medication intake as compared to the group that received mobilization and exercise."

The investigation also found that these results were maintained at the three-month follow-up exam.

Chiropractic is a safe and effective way to treat chronic headache pain, back pain, neck pain, and many other health conditions. If you're tired of suffering, give TJ Delorie a call today at our Olympia office at 724-123-1234. We're here to help get you relief.

Chiropractic and Medical Care: An Effective Combination

Olympia back pain treatmentWe see quite a few people with back pain in our Olympia practice, and TJ Delorie has been able to help many of them find relief through various chiropractic techniques. However, dealing with back pain doesn't necessarily mean having to decide between chiropractic care and medical care, as many people use both types of care with great results.

Study Confirms Chiropractic and Medical Care Work Well with One Another

In a report published by the academic journal Spine researchers1 looked at a group of active-duty military personnel between the ages of 18 and 35 who reported both acute soreness and restricted function due to back symptoms. Some of the test subjects engaged in treatment via standard medical therapy, while the rest were given chiropractic adjustments as well as regular medical care, as the authors wanted to determine which patients fared better.

The authors found that the patients who got standard medical care in combination with chiropractic scored "significantly better" than the patients who got medical care alone; 73 percent reported positive benefits compared to just 17% of the medical care only group who indicated the same amount of improvement. This was true regarding both pain and level of function at two and four weeks.

Therefore, incorporating these two forms of treatment can greatly benefit you--the patient--offering advantages when compared to medical care alone. However, while chiropractic care and medicine can work alongside each other, chiropractic offers some distinct strengths over medical treatment.

Where Chiropractic Care Is Successful

Although it may seem as if each method plays a 50-50 role, there is one significant benefit that chiropractic has over medical care and that is in patient satisfaction. In fact, a study done at UCLA2 that was published in the American Journal of Public Health found that, on average, chiropractic patients are generally more satisfied with their recovery than people undergoing medical treatment.

According to the researchers, the main factors that patients favored over medical treatment were "self-care advice and explanation of treatment." This isn't unexpected, as chiropractors commonly spend much more time advising their patients as to how they can improve their health on their own, as well as explaining more carefully what to expect from chiropractic.

Chiropractic Care Offers a Non-Invasive Approach

Certainly, the strategies associated with chiropractic are very different than those offered with medical treatment, but a large amount of the distinction is the fact that chiropractic is a natural approach to health and wellness. Rather than focusing on just relieving the symptoms, chiropractic care involves finding the root cause of your pain, which often translates to greater improvement as you are addressing the problem at its source.

Furthermore, while medication is sometimes helpful for treating certain conditions, many health issues respond well to natural forms of treatment such as chiropractic care. This means fewer negative side effects from prescriptions and lasting results.

You don't have to deal with back pain or other health problems. Give our Olympia clinic a call today at 724-123-1234. We'll do our best to help you get and remain free from back pain.

Olympia auto injury pain treatmentIf you live in Olympia and you've been in a car wreck, you need to know that you don't have to suffer from chronic problems.

Research Supports Chiropractic Helps With Chronic Pain after an Auto Injury

We work with several auto injury patients in our Olympia office, and many of these people are struggling with chronic pain caused by an old crash. As a matter of fact, research shows that a significant percentage of rear-end collisions result in pain and disability even ten years after the original injury.

TJ Delorie is here to help you avoid developing chronic pain by helping to restore the natural function of your spine soon after a collision.

The most frequent causes of chronic issues are reduced flexibility of your spine and the development of scar tissue in your spine. The ligaments of your spine can easily be harmed during a collision, and chiropractic works by minimizing inflammation and restoring normal motion.

Let's see why neck pain is frequently experienced after a car crash and see how chiropractic can help you heal. Let's look at the root cause of neck pain after an auto injury and see how chiropractic can help. The key to recovering from neck pain caused by a crash is to understand the root cause of the problem and how chiropractic care can help. Chiropractic can be very helpful for neck pain symptoms after a crash. Let's examine what causes neck pain and why chiropractic works. Chiropractic care is an excellent way to treat neck pain. Let's look at how neck pain is caused by a crash and how TJ Delorie can help you.

It's not surprising that neck pain is the most common symptom experienced after an auto injury. Even in a car wreck, your head is rapidly thrown back and forth, so it's not surprising that neck pain is the most common symptom from this type of injury. Your neck is subjected to very high forces during an auto injury, so it's not surprising that neck pain is so common from this type of injury. During even a low velocity car crash, your head is subjected to very rapid acceleration. In such accidents, a head that normally weighs about 10 pounds can suddenly weigh eight times as much. This force exerts an extreme strain on the tissues of the cervical spine. The bones of your neck are held together with strong bands of tissue called ligaments, and these ligaments provide stability for your neck. These ligaments can be sprained during a collision, just as the ligaments in your ankle can be sprained. A sprain means that the ligament is stretched or torn.

When you experience a sprained ligament, the damaged area gets swollen and sore, and that's what occurs after a car crash. Your chiropractor helps by increasing mobility in the injured area, which helps the ligaments heal and helps reduce scar tissue.

Studies Show Chiropractic Adjustments Beneficial at Preventing Sports Injuries

Olympia sports injury treatment and chiropracticWe see a lot of sports injuries in our Olympia clinic, and TJ Delorie is usually able to assist these athletes. Stanford Children’s Hospital reports that over 3.5 million children of the ages 14 and below are hurt each year while playing sports. Add that to the nearly 2 million adults injured annually while participating in sports-related activities, as reported by statistics compiled by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, and you can start to see the importance of preventing these sorts of common injuries. One way to potentially realize that goal, as reported by a study released in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, is to engage in regular chiropractic treatments.

In Australian Rules football, hamstring and other leg traumas are common, frequently sidelining the players and affecting their team's odds of winning. One specific study was conducted using 59 semi-elite Australian Rules footballers to see if chiropractic could reduce these injuries and help keep them playing.

Research Proves Chiropractic Helps in Treating Sports Injuries

For this study specifically, every one of the participants got medical treatment. Furthermore, half of them also engaged in chiropractic sessions at the rate of 1 treatment per week for the first 6 weeks, biweekly sessions for the following three months, and one treatment per month for the last 3 months of the study. The remaining group were given no chiropractic intervention at all and acted as the control group to determine the benefits of chiropractic.

After 24 matches, scientists reported a reduced amount of lower limb muscle strains in the group that had received chiropractic care. Furthermore, that same group also missed fewer matches correlated to non-contact knee injuries. This lead the researchers to conclude that chiropractic ought to be added to sports training programs to effectively reduce the quantity of leg injuries.

Olympia Chiropractic Care for Headache

Olympia neck pain and headache treatment

There are many different kinds of headache, but one of the most common types is known as "cervicogenic headache," or headaches that start in your neck.

TJ Delorie sees a lot of people in our Olympia office who are struggling with recurring headaches. Luckily, chiropractic adjustments can usually help, potentially reducing these types of headaches by 50 percent, and research confirms it.

Research Supports Chiropractic Helps With Cervicogenic Headaches

A study was conducted involving 80 participants who reported experiencing at least five cervicogenic headaches during the prior three months. The objective was to see how effective chiropractic was for this type of head pain, as well as to ascertain the number of treatment sessions necessary to achieve a positive effect.

The patients were split into four separate groups, so that each group was similar in age, gender, number of cervicogenic headaches, and their intensity. Of the four groups, two engaged in chiropractic treatments and two received light massage. Furthermore, one group assigned to each treatment received eight sessions and the other group received twice that amount.

Each patient was assessed based on head pain, neck pain, and disability prior to the study and 12 and 24 weeks after treatment was complete. The authors found that those who received chiropractic as opposed to massage reported fewer headaches at the conclusion of the study. Furthermore, improvements were maintained when checked six months after treatment ended.

Furthermore, individuals who were taking medications for their headaches were able to lower their intake after completing the study. Those who received chiropractic had lower drug usage 24 weeks post-study.

Chiropractic Before Surgery, Says AMA

Although some people are still skeptical about chiropractic care, even the American Medical Association (AMA) recommends that adjustments should be tried prior to surgical treatment--the one option that should be a last resort.

TJ Delorie has seen many back pain patients in our Olympia office who have been hurting for years and who are worried that they might need an operation for their back pain. TJ Delorie has had great success in helping patients recover and avoid risky back surgery, and the science backs up our experience.

Research Shows Chiropractic Helps You Avoid Risky Surgery

Recently, in a study carried out on about 2,000 Washington State workers who suffered from a back injury while at work, more than 40% who saw a surgeon first following their injury found themselves having back surgery within three years. That compares to just 1.5% of the individuals who first sought treatment with chiropractic, proving that this non-invasive approach is very effective at keeping you off the operating table.

TJ Delorie Can Help Patients Find Relief From Back Pain Without Surgery

There are options to risky medical procedures. Chiropractic is a proven effective and safe way to improve the function of your spine, which is the root cause of back pain. TJ Delorie has helped many patients in Olympia recover. Give our office a call today at 724-123-1234 for an appointment.

Lumbar Pain and the Sacroiliac Joint

We help a lot of patients with back pain in our Olympia office, and TJ Delorie finds that quite a few cases of back pain start in the sacroiliac (SI) joint. Research has demonstrated that roughly 25% of all back pain starts out in the SI joint, and now new research corroborates what we have noticed in our office: chiropractic is an effective method for treating this issue.

Research Supports Chiropractic Treatment Helps Increase Movement in the SI Joint

In the study released in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, thirty-two women who suffered from sacroiliac joint syndrome were separated into two groups and asked to engage in one of two treatment therapies. The first group was given a chiropractic adjustment only at the sacroiliac joint, and the other group was given an adjustment to the sacroiliac joint as well as the lumbar spine.

Researchers noticed significantly more improvements in both pain and movement immediately after treatment, two days later, and 30 days later for the group who had been given high-velocity low-amplitude manipulation to both the sacroiliac joint and the lumbar spine. This demonstrates that chiropractic treatment applied to these two areas offers both prompt and continuing benefits for sacroiliac joint pain sufferers—even with only a single treatment round.

Therefore, if you are having trouble with sacroiliac joint pain, or cope with back and leg pain and would like to know if your sacroiliac joint is the source, a consultation at our Olympia office could be the first—and best—step towards recovery. Give our office a call today at 724-123-1234.
