Chiropractic Can Help Prevent Surgery for Back Pain

Olympia Back Pain Treatment without SurgeryThe latest figures show that there are over 500,000 spinal surgeries annually in the US. Although sometimes it's necessary to have surgery for back pain, the reality is that if you can avoid this type of invasive procedure, you're often better off.

TJ Delorie is here to make sure that patients in Olympia have a natural, non-surgical option for back problems. We've helped many people recover from back pain without the need for surgery.

There are countless reasons to avoid unnecessary medical procedures: Surgeries often result in a longer recuperation time and complications, neither of which is a desirable scenario. Fortunately, as one medical study has found, chiropractic may actually keep you out of the operating room entirely.

Research Supports Chiropractic Care Helps Avoid Back Surgery

In this study, 1,885 workers with back injuries were assessed over a three year period. When the workers first sought treatment with a surgeon, over 42 percent ended up having back surgery. For patients who saw only a chiropractor, only 1.5 percent had surgery!

These findings mean that chiropractic care can help you recover from back pain without surgical treatments.

If you live in the Olympia area, TJ Delorie can probably help you with your back pain. Give our office a call today at 724-123-1234 for more information or an appointment.

Chiropractic Helps Prevent Lower Limb Injuries for Athletes

Olympia-sports-therapyWhen playing sports activities that demand a lot of lower body motion, like football, soccer, and basketball, it's not at all uncommon to suffer some type of injury to your lower extremities. Between pulled hamstrings, sprained ankles, knee injuries, and more, many people have found themselves out of commission. TJ Delorie has seen all of these problems in our Olympia patients. Fortunately, chiropractic adjustments can help prevent some of these injuries from occurring and research proves it.

Research Supports Chiropractic Helps With Sports Injuries & Recovery

TJ Delorie keeps current with all of the recent scientific research, and in a study published in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, researchers from Macquarie University in Australia studied 59 semi-elite Australian Rules football players. Roughly half were placed in a control group and the other half were put in a therapy group that received sports chiropractic care at regular intervals. During the first six weeks, this meant getting care once per week. The following three months consisted of an adjustment every two weeks before decreasing those to one visit monthly for the final three months of the study.

Researchers noted that there was a "significant" difference in the number of leg strains the players received in the treatment group when compared to the control. Furthermore, they noticed that the subjects who engaged in chiropractic also had fewer weeks of missed practice and games as a result of non-contact knee injuries. This led them to determine that sports chiropractic intervention should be added to "the current best practice management."

Every major sports organization in the US and the US Olympic Team has chiropractors on staff for their players, because they know that chiropractic really works. If you live near our office in Olympia and would like to see if TJ Delorie can help you boost your performance or reduce sports injuries, give our office a call today at 724-123-1234 for an appointment.

Chiropractic Patients Miss Less Work

Olympia Worker Injury Treatment and RecoveryWhen you're trying to support your family, take care of your household, and pay all of your bills on time, every day at work counts. Work injuries can be a serious problem for many people, and we see many of these types of injuries in our Olympia office. TJ Delorie appreciates your situation and is here to help.

The benefits of chiropractic care for work injuries are well-established. A 2013 research paper involving over 600 adults who were troubled with either back or neck pain found that the people who didn't see a chiropractor missed work at twice the rate of those who were seeing a chiropractor.

So, why don't more people use Chiropractic?

According to the respondents in this paper, two of the primary factors were that they thought they needed a referral for chiropractic care (which is typically no longer true) and they overestimated the costs associated with chiropractic treatment sessions by almost 70 percent.

The fact is, chiropractic patients actually spend less on care than medical patients, plus they are less likely to use drugs for their symptoms.

Chronic Pain, Car Crashes, and Chiropractic

Olympia auto injury recoveryOver 2 million people are injured every year in car accidents in the U.S. While some people are able to recover from their injuries relatively quickly, too many people are left to deal with chronic pain and disability. We see many of these patients here in our Olympia office. Fortunately, TJ Delorie is here to help you recover from your auto injury.

Research Shows Chiropractic Helps Prevent Chronic Pain After an Auto Accident

The science confirms what we see in our office: A British study was carried out on 28 individuals diagnosed with chronic whiplash syndrome. Each participant received chiropractic care and 93 percent of them found relief following their adjustments, even though 43 percent of whiplash sufferers overall usually never find relief. This confirms that chiropractic care is a great way to avoid long-term pain after an auto injury.

It's important to note that research has also found that delaying care after a car crash can adversely affect healing time, so getting in to see TJ Delorie as soon as possible is key to having a speedier recovery.

Olympia Back Pain and Pregnancy Care

Olympia chiropractor

While many women automatically assume that carrying a child and severe pain in the lower back go hand in hand, they are often surprised when they discover that this is not necessarily the case. In fact, chiropractic can often help relieve persistant back pain for pregnant women by as much as 85 percent.

Research Proves Chiropractic Helps With Back Pain and Pregnancy

We've worked with many pregnant women suffering from back pain in our Olympia office.

A research study published in Chiropractic & Manual Therapies involved 115 women who were pregnant (most of which were in their third trimester) and reported pain in their low back, pelvic area, or both. Data was gathered prior to the study, as well as one week, one month, three months, and one year after treatment commenced. At each follow-up, the participants were asked to rate their level of pain based on a 7-point scale to determine whether it was better, worse, or stayed the same. The results?

52% reported that their pain was better after one week of chiropractic treatment. After one month, that amount jumped up to 70 percent, climbing even more to 85 percent showing improvement at the three month mark. Positive effects were still reported at six months post-treatment, which was generally after delivery, and continued to the final data collection one year after treatment commenced.

There are also many additional benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy. Not only does it effectively ease back pain, but it does it in a completely natural and non-invasive way. This means that you don't have to worry about taking any drugs or undergoing any type of treatment that could potentially harm your unborn child.

Asthma Relief with Chiropractic

Olympia asthma care with chiropracticAsthma is a significant issue for many people in Olympia and for a society as a whole, since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that this condition currently affects almost 19 million adults and 7 million children in the United States. A full-blown asthma attack likely means a hospital visit. Thankfully, TJ Delorie has helped many people in Olympia get relief from asthma symptoms.

Research Shows Chiropractic Helps With Asthma

The medical literature confirms what we see in our practice. For example, a study published in Clinical and Experimental Allergy assessed 31 adult asthma patients after receiving four weeks of chiropractic treatments. The authors reported that the patients who received chiropractic adjustments had a 34% decrease in asthma symptoms.

The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics published another asthma-based study, except this one involved children. In this report, the 36 kids ranged from 6 to 17 years in age and their asthma was considered either mild or moderate in severity.

After 12 weeks of chiropractic adjustments, as a whole, the patients reported a higher quality of life and a lower level of severity. As a bonus, they also indicated that they depended less on their bronchodilator and these positive effects were still being demonstrated one year after chiropractic care was complete.

Chiropractic Can Decrease Shoulder Pain

Olympia shoulder pain treatment and recoveryAccording to research, around 5 percent of the population will experience painful conditions like frozen shoulder syndrome at some point in their lives. That makes shoulder-related pain a common occurrence and one that TJ Delorie sees in our Olympia office on a regular basis.

Research Proves Chiropractic Helps With Shoulder Pain

Generally, this issue is more common for people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, and it tends to affect women more frequently than men. While ice, heat, and gentle stretches can sometimes help alleviate the discomfort, so too can chiropractic adjustments.

For example, a study published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine looked at 50 patients with frozen shoulder who were given chiropractic care. The duration of care varied from 11 days to 51 days, with 28 days being the average.

The authors found that nearly all of the patients fared extremely well with chiropractic care. The authors found:

8 of the subjects reported 50-75 percent improvement
25 indicated improvement ranging from 75- 90 percent
1 participant had complete resolution of their frozen shoulder pain

Only one of the original 50 reported an improvement of 50 percent or less, so reports like this show just how beneficial chiropractic care can be when it comes to decreasing shoulder pain and increasing quality of life.

What causes long-term pain after a car wreck?

Olympia auto injury treatmentOf the approximately 2 million rear-end crashes in the US each year, a substantial number of people end up experiencing long-term pain and impairment. Some research indicates that 18% of people are still in pain 12 months after a crash.

TJ Delorie sees many accident patients in our Olympia office, and we frequently see individuals who have been suffering for many years and have not been able to find relief. TJ Delorie has great success in helping these patients.

The Roots of Chronic Pain

During a crash, the structures of your spinal column can be sprained or torn. The injured area becomes swollen and inflamed and sends pain impulses to the spine and central nervous system.

Pain tells your nervous system that something is wrong, which tells the muscle tissues in the damaged area to contract to shield the area from further damage.

If the damage isn't managed immediately, a negative cycle develops. The hurt area keeps sending pain signals and each time, your nervous system responds. This brings about a feedback loop in your nervous system that experts refer to as "central sensitization." Your nervous system basically becomes oversensitive to any kind of stimulation, triggering chronic pain.

TJ Delorie is able to help this kind of condition, as chiropractic care is a proven way to restore the nervous system's healthy functioning. Research shows that adjustments are successful at reducing pain from auto collisions and shows that chiropractic in fact has positive effects on the pain centers of the brain.

If you live in Olympia and have been in a crash, you don't have to suffer with chronic pain. Give TJ Delorie a call today at 724-123-1234 for a consultation or appointment.

Chiropractic Beneficial for Carpal Tunnel

Olympia natural carpal tunnel treatmentTJ Delorie sees a lot of people struggling with carpal tunnel syndrome in our busy Olympia chiropractic practice. While some people think that the source of this wrist-related pain is muscular, it's really a condition that stems from the nerves--and not just the nerves in your hands.

Research Supports Chiropractic Helps With Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Recent research printed in the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy evaluated 71 women between the ages of 35 and 59 who were diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. Upon studying the subjects' neck range of motion, the doctors found that the patients had less cervical flexibility when compared to a healthy control group.

In addition, they also found that the level of the women's reported carpal tunnel discomfort was linked to the lateral flexion of the cervical spine. In other words, the less flexibility in the neck, the higher the level of pain.

This research is extremely important, as you cannot effectively resolve a condition until you fully understand its source. By understanding that the root of carpal tunnel issues is in the neck, this means that all-natural approaches like chiropractic can often restore normal function, reducing the need for risky surgery.

Chiropractic Helps Fibromyalgia Pain

Olympia natural fibromyalgia treatmentIf you suffer with fibromyalgia, you are not alone, as TJ Delorie sees many patients with this particular condition in our Olympia chiropractic clinic. Actually, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that roughly two percent of all adults in the United States have fibromyalgia. Thankfully, chiropractic is one treatment option that can provide positive results.

Research Shows Chiropractic Eases Fibromyalgia

In a medical study released in mid-2015, 215 women and men with fibromyalgia were evaluated based on factors ranging from pain to quality of sleep to the levels of depression and anxiety they felt. Then they were split into two groups with one group receiving a multi-modal therapy plan for three months and the second group receiving the same approach with the addition of chiropractic adjustments (specifically, to the upper neck area) for the same length of time.

The individuals who received chiropractic care combined with the multi-disciplinary treatment program reported greater benefits in all areas (pain, sleep, depression, and anxiety) at 12 weeks post-treatment when compared to the study patients who received multi-modal therapy without chiropractic. Additionally, those positive benefits were long-lasting as the patients reported continued improvement one full year later.

Fibromyalgia can substantially decrease your quality of life, both mentally and physically. If you're struggling with fibromyalgia, we might be able to help.

You don't have to suffer! To find out what TJ Delorie can do for your fibromyalgia pain, call our Olympia chiropractic office today.
