Have Knee Pain? Chiropractic May Help

Olympia natural knee knee pain treatmentKnee pain is a frequent issue for patients in our Olympia chiropractic practice, and TJ Delorie has successfully provided many of these men and women relief. This is largely because chiropractic care has been found to help with many types of knee pain.

For instance, some patients feel pain in and around the knee tissues due to osteoarthritis. Research has proven that this condition responds very well to chiropractic--and rather quickly, too. In fact, one paper published in The Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association found that men and women with osteoarthritis in their knees felt considerable pain relief and enhanced function after just two weeks of chiropractic care.

If your knee pain is due to a medial meniscus tear, chiropractic could likely help with that as well. One case reported that integrating chiropractic with soft tissue treatment, rest, ice, and compression on the affected knee helped lower the intensity of the pain.

Of course, sometimes a knee replacement surgery is required in order to repair the problem, and if that's the case, chiropractic care can also help improve the outcome. How?

Research Proves Chiropractic Helps With Knee Pain

Research has found that patients with low back pain often have less positive results after knee surgery. Thus, dealing with your back pain through chiropractic before having a total knee arthroplasty can help with your post-surgery healing.

No matter what your knee issue, TJ Delorie can likely help. Call our Olympia practice today and find out what we can do for you!

Olympia Back Pain and Pregnancy Care

Depew NY chiropractor

While many women automatically assume that pregnancy and back pain go hand in hand, they are often pleasantly surprised when they learn that this is not necessarily the case. In fact, chiropractic can often help alleviate persistant back pain for pregnant women by as much as 85%.

Research Proves Chiropractic Helps With Back Pain and Pregnancy

In our busy Olympia chiropractic office, it isn't uncommon for pregnant women to reach out to TJ Delorie for help relieving their back pain.

A research study published in Chiropractic & Manual Therapies involved 115 women who were pregnant (most of which were in their third trimester) and reported pain in their low back, pelvic area, or both. Data was gathered prior to the study, as well as one week, one month, three months, and one year after treatment commenced. At each subsequent point in time, the participants were asked to rate their level of pain based on a 7-point scale to determine whether it was better, worse, or stayed the same. The results?

More than half reported that their pain was better after one week of chiropractic treatment. After one month, that amount jumped up to 70 percent, climbing even more to 85 percent showing improvement at the three month mark. Improvement was still reported at six months post-treatment, which was generally after delivery, and continued to the final data collection one year after treatment commenced.

There are also many additional advantages of chiropractic care during pregnancy. Not only does it efficiently relieve back pain, but it does it in a completely natural and non-invasive way. This means that you don't have to worry about taking any medications or undergoing any type of treatment that could potentially harm your unborn child.

Furthermore, it makes your time spent carrying your child more pleasant. When you're not distracted with aches and pains, you can enjoy the experience even more as you prepare your home and your life for all of the fun and exciting changes that lie ahead.

We're here in Olympia to help you have a healthy, pain-free pregnancy. Give us a call today at 724-123-1234 to make an appointment.

Lower Back Pain and the SI Joint

We see a large number of patients with back pain in our Olympia office, and TJ Delorie has noticed that many cases of back pain start in the sacroiliac (SI) joint. Research has demonstrated that about twenty-five percent of all back pain begins in the SI joint, and now new research corroborates what we have noticed in our office: chiropractic is an effective way to treat this pain.

In the study released in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, 32 women who suffered from sacroiliac joint dysfunction were split into two groups and asked to participate in one of two treatment therapies. The first group went through a chiropractic adjustment only at the sacroiliac joint, and the other group got an adjustment to the sacroiliac joint and the lumbar spine.

Researchers noticed significantly more improvements in both pain and movement immediately following treatment, two days later, and 30 days after for the patients who received high-velocity low-amplitude manipulation to both the sacroiliac joint and the lumbar spine. This demonstrates that chiropractic manipulation administered in these two areas offers both prompt and long term results for sacroiliac joint pain sufferers—even after only one treatment round.

So, if you are dealing with sacroiliac joint pain, or have back and leg pain and are ready to know whether your sacroiliac joint is the source, a consultation at our Olympia office could be the first—and best—step towards recovery. Give our office a call today at 724-123-1234.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and Auto Injury

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is a common symptom after a car accident, and it's something that TJ Delorie sees frequently in our Olympia office. The key to recovering from thoracic outlet syndrome caused by a crash is to understand the root cause of the problem and how chiropractic care can help.

The thoracic outlet is a bundle of nerves and blood vessels that travel through your neck and shoulder to your arm. These nerves and blood vessels don't have a lot of space, so they travel under and between the strong bands of muscles that support your head.

In a collision, these muscle groups can be stretched and strained. If damaged, the muscles become inflamed and tender, and they can develop scar tissue which limits movement and puts stress on the tissues of the thoracic outlet. Pressure on the nerves can cause tingling or pins and needles in the shoulder, elbow and even the wrist. Pressure on the blood vessels can also cause problems in the arm.

Olympia Thoracic Outlet Treatment

Chiropractic can be an effective way to treat thoracic outlet syndrome, as TJ Delorie will help improve mobility in your spine and restore normal nerve function in your neck and shoulder.

Let us help you recover from thoracic outlet syndrome. TJ Delorie has helped many patients with the same condition, and we can probably help you, too. The first step is to get an accurate diagnosis to determine what's causing your pain and then we will determine an appropriate treatment plan of action. Chiropractic Helps Prevent Lower Limb Injuries for Athletes

Olympia-sports-therapyWhen playing sports activities that demand a lot of lower body motion, like football, soccer, and basketball, it's not uncommon to sustain some type of injury to your lower extremities. Between pulled hamstrings, sprained ankles, knee injuries, and more, many players have found themselves sidelined. TJ Delorie has seen all of these problems in our Olympia patients. The good news is, chiropractic adjustments can help prevent some of these injuries from occurring and research proves it.

TJ Delorie keeps up-to-date with all of the latest scientific research, and in a study published in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, researchers from Macquarie University in Australia studied 59 semi-elite Australian Rules football players. Roughly one-half were placed in a control group and the other half were put in a therapy group that received sports chiropractic care at regular intervals. During the first six weeks, this meant receiving care once a week. The following three months consisted of an adjustment every two weeks before decreasing those to one visit monthly for the final three months of the study.

Researchers noted that there was a "significant" decrease in the number of lower limb strains the players received in the treatment group when compared to the control. In addition, they observed that the subjects who received chiropractic also had fewer weeks of missed practice and games as a result of non-contact knee injuries. This led them to determine that sports chiropractic intervention should be added to "the current best practice management."

Every major sports organization in the United States and the US Olympic Team has chiropractors on staff for their athletes, because they know that chiropractic works. If you live near our office in Olympia and would like to see if TJ Delorie can help you boost your performance or reduce sports injuries, give our office a call today at 724-123-1234 for an appointment.

What Is Spinal Decompression?

Spinal decompression therapy in OlympiaWe work with many back pain patients in our Olympia chiropractic office, and TJ Delorie and our staff uses an assortment of techniques to help get you out of pain and restore your spine's normal, healthy function. We find spinal decompression to be a highly effective approach.

Understanding Spinal Decompression Therapy

To help you better understand spinal decompression therapy, think of the discs in your spine like water balloons filled with gelatin. When you compress them (which occurs due to normal living, sustaining an injury, or other medical conditions), they can protrude, placing pressure on the nerves in your spinal column. This affects your brain's ability to communicate with tissues in the rest of your body.

If the stress on the discs becomes too high, they can herniate or protrude. This removes the padding between your vertebrae and can cause pain. The goal of spinal decompression therapy is to alleviate this pressure to help improve your body's function and also reduce your level of pain.

Can Spinal Decompression Therapy Help Me?

Spinal decompression therapy relieves disc pressure through the use of a specially designed table that gently elongates your spinal column through slow and controlled movements. This reduces the pressure placed on your discs. Some studies show an increase in disc height by as much as 1.3 millimeters after just six weeks of this treatment.

If you're wondering if spinal decompression therapy could help you feel and function better, simply call our Olympia office and schedule an appointment with TJ Delorie today. Your optimal health is our number one goal!

Olympia Cervicogenic Headache Treatment

Olympia headache care by TJ DelorieWe know how difficult persistent headache pain can be. TJ Delorie and our staff have worked with many patients in our Olympia chiropractic clinic, and we've had great success in helping folks reduce their headache pain.

A 2016 research paper confirms what we see in our office. In this paper, the authors started with 110 people who were suffering from headache pain that originated in the cervical spine. 58 of these patients were given a series of neck adjustments; 52 were given some stretches and exercises. The treatment period for both groups was four weeks.

The paper found that the patients who received cervical and thoracic spinal adjustments "experienced significantly greater reductions in headache intensity, disability, headache frequency, headache duration, and medication intake as compared to the group that received mobilization and exercise."

The study also found that these results were maintained at the three-month follow-up exam.

Chiropractic is a safe and effective way to treat headache, back pain, neck pain, and many other health conditions. If you're tired of suffering, give TJ Delorie a call today at our Olympia office at 724-123-1234. We're here to help get relief.

Chiropractic Beneficial for Carpal Tunnel

Olympia natural carpal tunnel treatmentTJ Delorie sees a lot of people troubled with carpal tunnel syndrome in our busy Olympia chiropractic practice. While some people think that the origin of this wrist-related pain is muscular, it's actually a condition that stems from the nerves--and not just the nerves in your hands.

Recent research published in the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy evaluated 71 women between the ages of 35 and 59 who were diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. Upon studying the subjects' neck range of motion, the researchers found that the women had reduced cervical mobility when compared to a healthy control group.

Furthermore, they also observed that the degree of the women's reported carpal tunnel pain was connected to the lateral flexion of the cervical spine. In short, the less flexibility in the neck, the greater the level of pain.

This research is very important, as you can't effectively treat a problem until you fully understand its source. By recognizing that the root of carpal tunnel pain is in the neck, this means that all-natural approaches such as chiropractic can often restore normal function, eliminating the need for risky surgical procedures.

If you are suffering from carpal tunnel pain, call our Olympia office and ask how TJ Delorie can help you get relief!

Shoulder Pain and Car Crashes

Shoulder Pain is a common symptom after an auto collision, and it's something that TJ Delorie sees frequently in our Olympia office. Chiropractic care can be very helpful for shoulder pain symptoms after a crash. Let's see what causes shoulder pain and why chiropractic works.

There are at least two ways that you can develop shoulder pain after an accident: by direct trauma to the shoulder joint or by referred pain from the neck.

Direct injury can be caused by hitting your shoulder on a hard surface in the car during the crash, or can occur if you have a tight grip on the steering wheel during a rear end crash. With this type of injury, you'll usually be aware of the pain soon after the crash.

More commonly, TJ Delorie finds that shoulder or arm pain does not immediately appear after a crash, but starts a few days or weeks after the trauma. This type of shoulder discomfort actually starts in the cervical spine. Injured ligaments or muscles in your neck can squeeze nerves in your neck, causing numbness, tingling, or pain in your shoulder, elbow, or wrist.

We've treated both kinds of shoulder problems in our Olympia office. This approach involves chiropractic adjustments to restore your spine's natural mobility and home exercises that strengthen your neck and shoulder.

If you've been hurt in a car crash and you're suffering from shoulder pain, TJ Delorie is here to help. The first step is to get an accurate diagnosis to determine what's causing your pain and then we will determine an appropriate treatment plan of action.
